Glass, silver and thread
I was thinking about identity and how we choose to express ourselves when I made this necklace. What we show and what we don’t show. It’s fascinating to investigate the relationship between the inside and outside of objects, where it’s impossible to see everything without taking time. I want to spark the viewers’ curiosity to the point that they want to get closer and closer, try to understand it, maybe even open it up, but can’t without smashing it because it’s fragile.
It’s made of glass and has a variety of structures, such as tears or drops. The pieces form a shell of various components, fragments. A layer of protection built up through time to shield what’s deep inside, it only gives a glimpse. A shell that has become a part of me or you. What parts do you show?
